DriveWay: First Mile Delivery App

When COVID hit, Wayfair needed to ramp up its delivery technology to better handle all of the orders we were receiving. Our team released the first app that allowed drivers to scan their pickups and for the first time ever, there was visibility in $745M dollars of product.

How we learned.

We interviewed drivers across the network to better understand their workflow and what pain points they experienced. We learned very quickly how manual their process was, how there was not real way of knowing what they picked up, and no way for the customer to track their order at the beginning of the product’s journey.

Aligning the team.

Role: Lead UX/UI Designer

Team: Product Manager, Content Strategist, 3 Developers, and a project manager

I used workflows to better understand how the drivers would use the app, what features were crucial to an MVP, and what future considerations we would want to hold on to. We used this flow to design the app.

Final design & results.

This is the design we released and tested with the users in October

2021. I went to the warehouse in Perris, CA, and interviewed users. We scored a 95% in usability testing, now had visibility into $74.5M worth of products, and reduced lost in transit by 6%.
